Tom Wilson blasted after wild hot mic remarks

Tom Wilson always tries to find a way to get under his opponents’ skin. Now, he is facing backlash from fans after shouting profanities at Elmer Soderblom.

Sunday’s game was historic for several reasons. It marked the 100th meeting between Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby. It could also have been Ovechkin’s final home game for the Washington Capitals, as he has yet to decide on his future in hockey.

Washington Capitals playoff race

The Pittsburgh Penguins stayed on the ice after the final whistle to shake hands with Ovechkin and give him a proper farewell. However, Ovechkin waved them off, signaling for them not to come over. Some interpreted this as a sign that he might return next season. He could also still appear in the playoffs, as the Capitals defeated the Penguins 3–0 to keep their playoff hopes alive. They have one game remaining, against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Tom Wilson caught on mic

Despite the otherwise respectful mood between the two rivals, agitator Tom Wilson did his best to provoke his opponents—something that has now drawn criticism on social media. Late in the game, with a 3–0 lead, Wilson shouted toward the Penguins bench and forward Elmer Soderblom following a scrum.
“Fight! Come fight! Fight! Bunch of p*ssies!” Wilson was caught on mic shouting.

Fans are not happy

Fans were quick to react online:
“Meaningless game for the Pens—what a clown Wilson is,” one fan wrote on X.
“Go home, you circus clown. Always looking for the camera,” another added.
“Dude’s been kinda losing his sh*t lately. He was moaning the other night when nobody on the Rangers would fight him when they were up 7–1. That’s when you start to wonder what’s going on under that helmet. Nothing good,” a third wrote.
