Insider names who Canada should bench for Brad Marchand

Brad Marchand has been a healthy scratch for Team Canada in the two last Olympic games. However, he is set to play in the elimination stage. Now, insider Craig Button has revealed who he wants to see pulled from the lineup to make room for Marchand.

Marchand is the second-oldest player on Team Canada, behind only Sidney Crosby. Despite his experience, he has been sidelined for two of the three Olympic games so far.

Brad Marchand will play the quarter finals

Head coach Jon Cooper has confirmed that Marchand will play in the quarterfinals, which means that, consequently, someone from the current lineup will need to sit out. As a result, the debate over who should be scratched has heated up among Canadian fans. Meanwhile, insider Craig Button has weighed in, saying he wants to see Seth Jarvis taken out of the lineup. In fact, speaking on SC with Jay Onrait, Button went on to explain why he believes Marchand should replace Jarvis.

”He hasn’t done anything”

“Real simple, Seth Jarvis. In his two games, he hasn’t done anything in my view to displace any other player on this team. He doesn’t bring the elements that Sam Bennett brings, or the elements that are important deeper down your lineup. You can talk about his skating and his speed, but they don’t need skating and speed. They need the elements that Sam Bennett brings to the game, that Bo Horvat brings to the game. And Brad Marchand is a gamer — a big-time player. He understands the demands, knows what’s going to be asked of him, and he’ll settle into doing that. So it’s real easy for me. Seth Jarvis, who was the 14th forward coming into this, moves out of the lineup,” Button said.
