Team USA has arrived in Italy and is now preparing for the Olympics. During an interview, captain Auston Matthews shared some frosty words about his Toronto Maple Leafs teammate William Nylander.
Matthews and Nylander have been teammates on the Toronto Maple Leafs for ten seasons and have shared many memories over the years. But for the upcoming Olympics, they are opponents, with Nylander representing Team Sweden.
Auston Matthews has been named captain of Team USA, with Charlie McAvoy and Matthew Tkachuk serving as his alternates.

Team USA Olympic roster
Team USA boasts a star-studded roster, including big names such as Jack Eichel, Quinn Hughes, and Jack Hughes. Alongside Canada, they are considered favorites to win the tournament. However, there has been a big debate about the American players left out of the final roster, including stars such as Jason Robertson, Adam Fox, and Cole Caufield.
Auston Matthews’ words about William Nylander
When speaking to the media on Sunday, a Swedish reporter asked Matthews if he would be spending time with his Toronto teammate in the Olympic Village. Matthews smiled and replied:
“I think I’ll just stick with my teammates here and Team USA for the next couple of weeks, and we can reconvene back in Toronto.”
Team USA will begin their tournament against Latvia on Thursday, while Team Sweden will face Italy on Wednesday.
