Sidney Crosby pays incredible tribute to Peter Forsberg

Two all-time greats, Sidney Crosby and Peter Forsberg, swapped sticks during the Penguins’ visit to Sweden. And what Crosby wrote on his stick to Forsberg has fans saying the same thing.

Peter Forsberg is one of the greatest players ever, something his trophy cabinet can easily attest to. Although his career was cut short by injuries, he still managed to win a lot. Two Stanley Cups, two Olympic golds, and two World Championship golds. Forsberg still ranks eighth in NHL history in points per game, with 1.25. A number he shares with another all-time great, Sidney Crosby.

Sidney Crosby still going strong

At 38, Crosby is still going strong and scored his 12th goal of the season during Sunday’s matchup in Stockholm against the Nashville Predators. The Pittsburgh Penguins won 4–0 and currently sit in third place in the Eastern Conference. In the later stages of his career, Crosby has started to collect sticks from opponents and other players around the league. But until yesterday, his collection was missing one from Peter Forsberg.

Crosby’s words to Peter Forsberg

Using former Penguins teammate Patric Hornqvist as a middleman, Forsberg swapped sticks with both Crosby and Evgeni Malkin after the game, where Forsberg was in attendance as a spectator. On the stick he gave to Forsberg, Crosby wrote a heartfelt message to his childhood idol:
“It was an honor to play against you. Thanks for being a great role model,” Crosby’s stick read.
“To my idol. You are the best!” Malkin’s stick read.
