Alexander Ovechkin roasted Henrik Lundqvist after his 900th goal

Last night, Alexander Ovechkin scored his 900th NHL goal, reaching a milestone no one had ever achieved before. After the game, he playfully chirped his former rival Henrik Lundqvist in the TV studio.

With a backhand goal in the second period of the Washington Capitals’ 6-1 win over the St. Louis Blues, Ovechkin became the first NHL player ever to reach 900 regular-season goals – a historic feat many thought was impossible.

Scored 24 goals on Lundqvist

During his 20-year goal chase, Ovechkin has scored on his division rival Henrik Lundqvist no fewer than 24 times, the second-most of any goaltender he’s faced. The number one spot goes to Marc-Andre Fleury, who has conceded 28 goals against Ovechkin. Last night, Lundqvist was in the TV studio for the NHL on TNT broadcast.

After the game, Ovechkin spoke with the broadcasters, and Lundqvist gave him some much-deserved credit.
“I have to say, even though you scored a lot against me, I loved playing against you for 15 years. It was so challenging every time, but I loved it,” Lundqvist told Ovechkin.
Then analyst Anson Carter asked Ovechkin which goal was his most memorable, and Ovechkin couldn’t resist chirping Lundqvist.
“Probably against you, man – the Rangers all the time,” Ovechkin said, making the studio erupt in laughter.
