Ryan Reaves makes reporters laugh over Matt Rempe fight

Last night, the San Jose Sharks earned their first two-point game of the season with an overtime win against the New York Rangers. In the first period, Matt Rempe and Ryan Reaves dropped the gloves in a true heavyweight battle. After the game, Reaves revealed what was said between them before the fight.

The Sharks have — as tradition has it — started their season slowly. But last night, they managed to clinch their first win, in overtime, against a New York Rangers team that has been struggling on home ice this season, having been outscored 1–9 before last night’s game.

Heavyweight tilt

Five minutes into the game, it was time for a serious heavyweight showdown between Ryan Reaves and Matt Rempe — Reaves, a former Rangers enforcer, versus Rempe, his heir apparent. Both landed some heavy punches to the delight of their teammates and the crowd’s big cheers. However, the fight forced Rempe to leave the game with an upper-body injury.

Ryan Reaves makes reporters laugh

After the game, Reaves was asked by reporters to comment on the fight and what led up to it.
“Well, he asked to go off the draw, and I said I was gonna go run somebody first, and then it happened immediately. It was a good tilt,” Reaves told reporters.
Next up, the Rangers will play the Calgary Flames, while the Sharks will face the New Jersey Devils.
