Less than 24-hours after the Senators announced the passing of Erik and Melinda’s son, Erik himself took to social media to provide a heartfelt update on their current situation.
In the note posted on Erik’s Twitter page, he and Melinda mentioned how it is difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but know one day they will get there. Karlsson went on to thank everyone for the love and support while respecting their privacy.

Erik and Melinda finished the note on a positive front, stating that “we know we will hold him (Axel) again one day under different circumstances and the joy he gave us will be with us forever.”
Erik and Melinda received many messages of support from around the Senators organization, hockey fan base, and users through social media.
