A scary incident occured in the Finnish top division this weekend. NHL prospect Otto Kivenmaki took a huge hit to the head from czech player David Nemecek and was taken to the hospital. His mother says the season is over, but it might also threaten the young centermans career.

In the middle of the second period, 19 year old Otto Kivenmaki of the Finnish team Ässät headed into the offensive zone with the puck. Moments later, David Nemecek put in a dangerous hit on the prospect who dropped and started bleeding from the back of his head after hitting the ice.

Kivenmaki was taken to the hospital following the hit. He is in stable condition according to team doctors, Finnish news outlet Yle reports.

Nemecek received a game misconduct for the hit and most likely, the czech defenseman will be suspended.

Via social media, his mother writes that her sons season is over. But the dangerous and ugly hit could threaten his career.

“Tomorrow will tell us more, the future will reveal the rest. The season (and worst case his career) ended and he can forget about the final exams that soon will take place,” Kivenmaki writes.

Team doctor Hilkka Ryhänen says an update on Kivenmaki will be announced in two or three weeks. Her mother praises the medical staff at the arena.

“A big thank you to the Ässät’s team doctors for his exemplary action on the ice and in the locker room, as well as to all of you that understand that it’s not only about a young players hockey career, but in worst case about a loved family member and an important friend to many,” Kivenmaki writes according to Yle.

Olle Kivenmaki was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the seventh round of the 2018 NHL draft.
