Slap Shot

Slap Shot is the 1977 comedy that remains hockey’s defining film, directed by George Roy Hill and starring Paul Newman as player-coach Reggie Dunlop. The story follows the failing Charlestown Chiefs, who start winning and drawing crowds once they turn to violence. Screenwriter Nancy Dowd based it on the Johnstown Jets, the minor-league club her brother Ned played for.
