The Carolina Hurricanes beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1 on Sunday night, their second win in the city inside nine days. That would have been enough on its own. Their social media account decided it wasn’t.
“We’ve won more games in Philly in the last nine days than the Flyers, Eagles, and Phillies combined this month,” the Hurricanes posted on X.
Writer Jonny Lazarus summed up the response fairly well: “This might be the greatest online roast I’ve ever seen.”
How bad is Philadelphia sports right now?
Every word of it checks out, which is the part that stings. The Flyers lost their seventh straight to open the season on Sunday, a franchise record, and sit at 0-5-2. The Eagles are 2-3 and haven’t won in Philadelphia since their season opener against Washington, having just lost to Jacksonville in London. The Phillies were knocked out by Atlanta in the wild-card round, and their last home win came in the regular-season finale. The 76ers haven’t played a game that counts yet.
Carolina, meanwhile, has two.

Flyers supporters took it about as well as could be expected.
“You can’t hurt us when we’re already dead, bro,” one wrote.
“The Canes are cruel but accurate,” another said, while a third went further: “That is diabolical. The Hurricanes social media squad are straight up assassins.”
This isn’t a first offense either. After sweeping Philadelphia out of the second round in May, Carolina’s account posted a photograph of a sad-looking cheesesteak with the caption “Do you want it wit or witout tears?”, a reference to how Philadelphians order them.
The broader picture is grimmer still for the Flyers. Since taking a 3-0 series lead over Pittsburgh in the first round last spring, they have lost 13 of 14 games, four of those in the sweep Carolina handed them.
