Rogers holds both the Edmonton Oilers’ regional and national rights, so one Sportsnet subscription plus Amazon Prime covers the season. The trade-off is that free Saturday hockey on CBC is gone. The upside, if you follow the Oilers from outside Alberta, is that blackouts should shrink.
Where are Oilers games?
Regional games are on Sportsnet West, with national games on Sportsnet on Saturdays and Mondays and on Amazon Prime Video on Wednesdays. There is no TSN involvement in this market at all, which is what makes it simpler than Toronto or Montreal.
What do I need to buy?
Two things. Sportsnet+ covers the national games and the in-market regional coverage; Premium adds out-of-market games. Amazon Prime covers Wednesdays. On cable, one sports tier with the Sportsnet channels does nearly all of it.
What does it cost?
Sportsnet+ Standard is $34.99 a month or $269.99 a year, up $5 a month from 22 September. Premium is $44.99 or $344.99. Amazon Prime is $9.99 a month or $99 a year, with the hockey included.
Why should blackouts get better?
Because under the new twelve-year deal Rogers can convert Oilers regional games into national broadcasts wholesale — and national games carry no regional blackout. Edmonton is one of the markets where that should be felt most: if you live outside Alberta and follow the Oilers, more of the schedule should now be available to you without an out-of-market package.
Who calls the games?
Last season Jack Michaels called play-by-play with Louie DeBrusk analysing and Gene Principe reporting; this season’s line-up comes when Sportsnet announces its plans in September. Radio is settled: 880 CHED signed a three-year extension in March 2026, with Jack Michaels and Cam Moon on play-by-play and Bob Stauffer on colour. That is worth noting because Rogers shut down Calgary’s sports radio station in July — Edmonton’s was renewed.
When do the Edmonton Oilers play?
Tuesday 29 September, at home to Vancouver, at 10pm Eastern on Sportsnet — the nightcap of the opening-night doubleheader.
