BREAKING: Tom Wilson Receives Hefty Suspension for Illegal Hit

Tom Wilson has been dealt a hefty suspension by the NHL Director of Player Safety after his illegal check to the head of Oskar Sundqvist.

Wilson, a repeat offender, had an in-person hearing with the DOPS to discuss the incident and eventually hand out the suspension for Wilson. It is now reported on social media that Wilson will receive a 20-game suspension for the incident.

Wilson won’t be eligible to play for the Washington Capitals until November 21st, where the Caps will take on the Chicago Blackhawks.

As mentioned earlier, this isn’t the first time Wilson has been given a suspension.

In 2017, Wilson was suspended for a late hit to Robert Thomas in a preseason game. Wilson was also suspended four games for boarding Sammy Blais, also in the preseason. In may of 2018, Wilson received a three-game suspension for an illegal check to the head of Zach Aston-Reese.

Wilson’s hit happened in the preseason and is the third time he has been given a suspension based on a play in the preseason.

The Hockey News awarded Wilson with the toughest player (Bob Probert Award) for 2018.
