Alexa Landestoy has fronted that desk since the 2020-21 season, and also works as a college football sideline reporter for FOX. How did Alexa Landestoy end up covering the Capitals?

Alexa Landestoy was not hired to cover hockey at all. NBC Sports Washington brought her in during July 2019 to co-host DC Sports Live, a nightly talk show about every team in the city. The show was paused when COVID hit in 2020, and during the rebuilding period that followed, the network asked her to step into the Capitals pregame and postgame role with Alan May.

She had never played hockey, though she grew up a Los Angeles Kings fan. Her own sport was club soccer in the Elite Clubs National League, which ended when she tore both ACLs within about ten months, and it was that injury that pushed her towards media in the first place. While still in high school, she started her own football interview series, filmed on her own iPad with a parent working the camera.

“I have really loved working with Alexa,” May said. “She won me over early in our first season together and she’s amazed me ever since with her attitude, work ethic, and personality.”

Is Alexa Landestoy still with Monumental Sports Network and the Capitals?

Yes. The Capitals and Monumental Sports Network named her as host of both shows for 2026-27 in their broadcast announcement of 2 September 2026, again with Alan May. The question comes up because she added a second job at a national network, not because she left the first one. When FOX hired her in August 2025 she addressed it herself in the announcement post, telling Capitals fans that May was stuck with her. One employer name did change without the job changing: NBC Sports Washington was rebranded as Monumental Sports Network, so her early Capitals work sits under the old name.

What else does Alexa Landestoy do?

Alexa Landestoy works college football Saturdays as a sideline reporter for FOX, a job she took in August 2025. FOX Sports announced on 28 August 2026 that she would again work games on a crew with Robert Griffin III. She has also anchored On The Fly for NHL Network since November 2023, and hosted the NHL’s own Stanley Cup Live show during the 2023 playoffs, which took her from one market to the whole league.

Her hockey coverage paused for a few weeks in spring 2025, when she went on maternity leave in April and returned in May to host the Capitals’ second-round playoff series.

Alexa Landestoy is from Valencia, California, in the Santa Clarita Valley north of Los Angeles, and went to Valencia High School. Her father is a retired Los Angeles police detective and her uncle, Jim Benkert, has been a head coach in California high school football since 1989, which is where the line about growing up on the football sideline comes from.

Yes. She won a Capital Emmy in the Sports Program Host category in June 2026, for an entry the awards body lists as her Capitals host composite.
