Alex Ovechkin becomes unhinged – ejected after taunting officials

Rough night for the Caps and Alex Ovechkin after the Carolina Hurricanes seals the deal to force game 7.
Late in the third period, Ovechkin took a wild slashing call against Saku Mäenalanen and then taunted the officials.
The Russian got ejected, but it won’t affect his status for game 7.

The reigning champions had the chance to secure a spot in the conference semifinals by defeating the Carolina Hurricanes last night. However, in PNC Arena the Caps lost 5-2 and game 7 will decide who goes through to the conference semi finals.

Game 7 awaits

Late in the third period, with the 5-2 game out of Washington’s reach, Alex Ovechkin slashed Hurricanes’ forward Saku Maenalanen. Then, the Russian captain skated towards one of the officials, clapping his hands.

You can easily say the officials weren’t that happy about the behaviour. Ovechkin ended up getting ejected.

“They make weird calls all game, but not surprised. I don’t want to be bad guy or something, but it wasn’t fun,” Ovechkin said after the game

The game misconduct won’t affect Ovechkin’s status for game 7, to be played in Capitol One Arena Wednesday.

“He’s unbelievably passionate”

Caps coach Todd Reirden wasn’t enraged about the game misconduct, caused by Alex Ovechkin.
