Quinn Hughes still hasn’t signed a contract extension with the Minnesota Wild, and general manager Bill Guerin‘s latest comments have only fueled speculation about where the star defenseman could end up.
Hughes is entering the final season of his current six-year, $47.1 million contract. Talks between his camp and the Wild have reportedly slowed over the summer, and Guerin hasn’t helped calm the noise. Speaking on WCCO Radio, he suggested there might be more than money and term at play in Hughes’ decision.
“Quinn might be after different things… He’s got different things in his life that are important to him. Who knows what he’s gonna want in the end,” Guerin said.
Quinn Hughes’ future
For a fanbase that’s been waiting years to see all three Hughes brothers on the same roster, that kind of comment was more than enough to set off a new wave of speculation.
“Listening to Bill Guerin’s interview and he really sounds like a defeated man,” one fan wrote on X. “The Quinn Hughes honeymoon is over in Minnesota. It’s time to move on and let Quinn go to where he truly wants to be… with his brothers on the New Jersey Devils.”

Others were even more direct about what they think Hughes ultimately wants.
“What Quinn Hughes ‘wants in the end’ is for the 3 Hughes brothers to win a cup while playing for the same team, which will likely be the New Jersey Devils,” a Reddit user wrote. “Even a peasant like me knows that.”
With younger brothers Jack Hughes and Luke Hughes already anchoring the roster in New Jersey, it’s hard to deny how exciting it would be to see all three brothers playing together. Jack, one of the league’s true superstars, put up 77 points (27 goals, 50 assists) in just 61 games last season, while Luke chipped in 35 points from the blue line.
