Brady Tkachuk is now a member of the Florida Panthers after leaving the Ottawa Senators following eight seasons with the franchise. Now, an interview from April has resurfaced. In it, Tkachuk said he wanted to stay in Ottawa. Following Sunday’s trade, many fans have reacted angrily to those comments, saying they feel betrayed by the former Senators captain.
Brady Tkachuk was selected fourth overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 2018 NHL Draft. During his eight seasons in the Canadian capital, he recorded 463 points in 572 games while also racking up 821 penalty minutes. He also captained the team for five seasons.

Brady Tkachuk to Florida trade
On Sunday, Brady Tkachuk was traded to the Florida Panthers. In Florida, Brady will get to play with his brother, Matthew Tkachuk. They also have a podcast together, called Wingmen.
In return, the Senators received the ninth and 25th overall picks in the 2026 NHL Draft, as well as a second-round pick in 2027. Ottawa will also receive a top-10 protected first-round pick in 2029.
“This was not a decision we took lightly, but ultimately we did what we felt was best for the long-term future of our hockey club. We now possess cap space and draft capital and will be actively working to improve our roster,” Ottawa Senators president of hockey operations and general manager Steve Staios said in a statement.
Fans are not happy
Many Senators fans, however, are unhappy with the trade. Now, a video from one of Tkachuk’s April press conferences is going viral among hockey fans. The clip is from April 29, when Tkachuk addressed rumors that he wanted out of Ottawa.
“I feel like I’ve answered this hundreds of times. I have been fully committed to this team, to this city, and it’s becoming a distraction, frustrating to deal with,” Tkachuk said on April 29.
Now, some fans are calling out Brady Tkachuk for those comments.
“It’s honestly baffling to me that none of these guys have the ability to feel shame. Like, how is he not embarrassed?” one fan wrote on X.
“Hahahaha, good luck. Bailed on his team. Real good character player they got there,” another fan wrote.
“Leader? Proven? Both outright lies,” a third fan wrote.
