Bruce Cassidy fired by Vegas

Bruce Cassidy took over as head coach of the Vegas Golden Knights for the 2022–2023 season. The hiring turned out very well, as Vegas won its first-ever Stanley Cup. But on March 29, 2026, Vegas fired Cassidy despite sitting in a playoff spot. Instead, they hired John Tortorella, who will now lead the Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Final.
For Cassidy, the past few weeks have been frustrating. Other NHL teams have wanted to speak with him about coaching opportunities. But Cassidy needs Vegas’ permission until the end of the 2026–2027 season, when his contract with the team expires.
Vegas general manager Kelly McCrimmon has said that the organization is currently focused on the playoffs and that other teams have respected that.

Brutally honest words

But for Bruce Cassidy, the situation has become increasingly frustrating. Appearing as a guest on the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast, Cassidy expressed his feelings about Vegas.
“It’s upsetting, I’m going to be honest. Because once you’re fired, your contract is basically terminated. In this case, there were two teams that asked. That’s public knowledge now, and I would like to talk to them. I want to go to work. I’m a hockey coach,” Cassidy said on the podcast.
