Wayne Gretzky’s beautiful gesture goes viral

Wayne Gretzky is the most iconic hockey player of all time, but he holds an even more special place in the city of Edmonton, thanks to his legendary tenure with the Oilers. Now, a video of a heartwarming gesture from Gretzky to two dedicated Oilers fans is going viral.

Wayne Gretzky’s years in Edmonton will likely remain unmatched forever. Besides winning four Stanley Cups, Gretzky won the Hart Trophy eight years in a row and set records for most goals in a season (92), most assists in a season (163), and most points in a season (215)—records that are unlikely to ever be broken.

However, Gretzky’s glory has faded slightly in recent years. In an effort to refresh his public image, he teamed up with his son Ty and social media influencer Zachery Dereniowski. Together, they surprised two die-hard Oilers fans by selling them tickets to a Stanley Cup Final game for just one dollar each. The tickets gave the fans—who were out grocery shopping at the time of the surprise—the chance to sit with the Gretzky family in a luxury box at Rogers Place.

”Just beautiful”

“Thank you Ty Gretzky and Wayne Gretzky for making this dream come true for Davin and Eric. Be kind and love always,” Dereniowski wrote.
“This is so fabulous,” one person commented on Instagram.
“What an absolutely insane experience!! I would have fainted if I saw the Great One!” wrote another.
“Just beautiful—that pure happiness,” a third person added.
Game Four is set to be played on Thursday in Florida. The Panthers currently lead the series 2–1.
