Cole Caufield’s 4-word response after taking hit from Alex Ovechkin

Alex Ovechkin’s season just keeps getting better. After an incredible regular season, he led the Washington Capitals to an overtime win in Game 1 against the Montreal Canadiens. But he also made his mark with some big hits—and during intermission, his opponent Cole Caufield gave the most hilarious response when asked about it.

Ovechkin has had a season for the ages. After a career-long chase, he officially surpassed Wayne Gretzky in all-time goals when he scored his record-breaking 895th career goal late in the regular season.

Although he didn’t get much rest down the stretch, Ovechkin was in top form in Game 1 of the first-round series against Montreal on Monday, showing terrific leadership as he carried the Capitals to an OT win.

Cole Caufield’s four-word response

He finished the game with an assist and two goals, including the overtime winner—the first playoff OT goal of his career. But he didn’t just contribute offensively. Ovechkin was physical from the start, delivering seven hits throughout the game.

At one point, he absolutely leveled Cole Caufield in the corner. During the intermission, ESPN’s Emily Kaplan asked Caufield about Ovechkin’s physical play—and his four-word response was priceless:
“I wouldn’t recommend it,” he said.

Caufield did score the Canadiens’ first goal of the postseason, but it wasn’t enough to lift them to a win in Game 1.
