When Cam Neely took one for the team and fought NHL’s biggest goon

They certainly don’t make ’em like they used to.

Donald Brashear and Cam Neely were two players you didn’t want to mess with. Brashear had his first fight during the 1993 season and never looked back. Neely was busying putting points up on the board but didn’t shy away from any encounter.

Not known for etching his name on the scoresheet every night, Brashear made a name for himself being one of the toughest guys on the ice.

Cam Neely was a four-time All-Star and is a Hall-of-Famer, but wasn’t afraid to chuck knucks either. Neely recorded 694 points during his career, but also racked up his fair share of fights as well.

So, what happened when Neely and Brashear faced-off against one another during the 1995-1996 regular season? Fists were thrown, of course!

We know that Boston and Montreal have a heated rivalry, so when these lads went at one another the place erupted.

Neely was at the end of his NHL career and Brashear was still trying to make a name for himself, as he was only in his third season.

Brashear fed Neely multiple left-hands and even threw in some rights for good measure.

Neely failed to land a punch on Brashear, but at least he brought Brashear down.

Neely ended up with a busted nose from the fight. Brashear picked up 22 fights that season and would pick up many more over the course of his career.
