Anaheim Ducks Gift Retiring Equipment Manager with Awesome Gift

Doug “Sluggo” Shearer spent 34 NHL seasons as an equipment manager, with the last 11 years with the Anaheim Ducks. He will retire at the end of the season, and the Ducks’ players took it upon themselves to present Sluggo with an extraordinary gift.

It was a normal day at the office when Francois Beauchemin asked Sluggo to tighten his visor. Without a moment’s hesitation, Beauchemin’s visor was fixed and ready to go.

Placed at center ice was a fishing boat. When Shearer returned the visor, Beauchemin asked him when his boat would be removed so the Ducks could have practice. Shearer was a bit confused at the question until Beauchemin urged him to check out the boat.

Shearer stepped on the ice to stick taps and checked out the boat, with tears welling in his eyes.

Sluggo called the Ducks “a special group” and spoke about how he had no idea of the surprise.

The Ducks’ move was pretty classy and it’s nice to see an organization, especially the players, treat one of their own.
