Is this the craziest comeback we’ll see all season?

It’s not out of the ordinary to see comebacks happen in sports, but Saginaw may have pulled off the greatest comeback we’ll see this year.

Journey’s famous song Don’t Stop Believin’ was not only a friendly hit inside the Dow Event Center but also the mantra for Saginaw’s insurmountable climb to a victory.

Down 6-0 with less than two minutes remaining in the 2nd period, this game seemed all but over. The Sting, who are a top 3 team in the OHL’s Western Conference, had the meeting wrapped up. Then, the Saginaw Spirit put on a show that will be talked about for a very long time.

The Spirit scored two goals late in the 2nd period to only trail by 4 heading into the final and decisive period. In the final frame, Saginaw continued to score unanswered goals. The lead was once impossible to overcome, and now the Spirit were within striking distance.

With 3:30 remaining in the 3rd period, Damien Giroux found the back of the net to tie it all up at 6.

Now that the Spirit had finally chased down the Sting, they weren’t just happy for a point – they wanted to win.

With less than a minute left in overtime, Cole Koskey’s toe drag-shot looked to be handled, but then the puck found its way past the Sarnia netminder and past the goal line. Sarnia had blown a 6-goal lead and Saginaw was apart of a crazy comeback that won’t be matched anytime soon.
