While many players often take the summer off once their team is eliminated from the playoffs or playoff contention, it isn’t out of the norm to see high-profile talent represent their country. Matt Duchene represented Canada last year, with a team that also saw Mitch Marner, Wayne Simmonds and Claude Giroux lace up their skates.
However, this year, Canada may once again land one of the NHL’s best: Connor McDavid.
During an interview with Hockeysverige, Oscar Klefbom (Connor’s teammate) said, “I know that Connor will go (to the World Championships) and I think Nugent-Hopkins will go as well.”
If this is true, Canada just became a whole lot stronger heading into the World Championships.
This wouldn’t be the first World Championships for McDavid. In 2016 Connor tallied 9 points in 10 games.
